Fruits and Starting them early.

March 5, 2014 Eric

As we live in a very controversial time with children and weight and eating right types of food, the one comment I always hear is “your children eat so good”. A lot of people have always said “my kids dont like fruits” or I hear “my kids wont eat fruits”. To me and in no means am I trying to point fingers, or call out nor am I saying this is the right way to parent. But, to me I think its because you (the parent) did not start your child/children at a young age. Today if I went to the grocery store my kids would get EXCITED to get strawberries, blueberries, grapes and apples. They would prefer a fruit salad bowl over a bowl of chips. People always say NO WAY, when I say this till they see it. Either myself or my wife can create a smorgasbord of fruit and our children will devour them like hyenas. It’s not about whether your kid will like fruit or not. Its about taking the time and instilling that into them when they are young. Remember, it all starts when they are young. It’s about taking the time and preparing the fruits for them. It’s an essential part of a child’s diet and even more essential as they get older. Do not give in, what I mean by that is understand that while its much easier to just throw in eggos or pop tarts, or some sugary cereal they are getting temporary fake sugar and not natural sugar and nutrients that they need. They key here is making them understand that this is what they need to eat for good long lasting energy and for PROPER sugars that they need to put in their body. It will help them grow strong and be fast, like a super hero my youngest son always tells me.

Even with a family of four kids and running a business my wife and I find time to always keep a fresh and healthy stock of fresh fruit. And might I recommend if you are looking for a nice day out or for some healthy fun please look around in your local area for blueberry, strawberry or apple picking. There are many things and farms and places out there that you can go and take the family to for a fun day out. Yes sometimes they may charge a bit more but you’re going for the experience and memories not for just the berries / fruit / veggies.  We always try to help support local farmers and markets as much as possible as well.

I hope that you found this little blurb informational and hopefully it inspires you to start feeding your child fruits and paving the way for them for years to come. I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed by the outcome.

March 2020 Stay At Home Fun Guide & Calendar

March 15, 2020 By Andrea

With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) shutting down schools and pretty much everything else, I took the time today to schedule out our kids school week as they will be out of school until at least May 27th.  If the schools are shut down longer then I'll add March 30th and start planning for April. I created a daily schedule(not posted here), a daily calendar of activities that we can follow, as well as a stay at home fun guide to make their time off more "summer camp" like.  Unlike holidays where … [Read More...]

The Perfect Gift For Bakers

December 14, 2017 By Andrea

As of last week we really hadn't done much of any Christmas shopping.  I know.  It's not that we haven't wanted to, but it's a year of minimalism and we've been trying to declutter and finish sorting through boxes in the basement from when we moved in 2 years ago. We both have the want to tackle the clutter and projects, but the list is never ending and when you have 4 kids and run a business there really is no such thing as "free time".  I'm sure you can relate.  As we're doing our shopping … [Read More...]

Personalized Place cards for Thanksgiving or Christmas Dinner

December 7, 2017 By Andrea

We hosted Thanksgiving dinner this year and one thing that I definitely wanted to do was create individual place cards.  It's a great way to personalize place settings and avoid confusion as who will to sit where (in our case all the kids wanted to sit next to their Grandparents). I found a simple template online and then printed it on watercolor paper which I had to trim the edges off to be able to fit it into the printer.  The advantages of using watercolor paper is that it is thick enough … [Read More...]

What Do We Tell Our Children When Life Gets Difficult?

July 20, 2017 By Andrea

There's so much good and so much bad in the world it's so often hard to tell them apart. Like most adults I can tell quite a few stories that at the time they were the worst moments of my life. If there's one thing that every human being can relate to it is the constant struggles of life. Then inevitable ups and downs. The highest of highs and the lowest of lows. So what do we tell our children? You tell them this: "Please know that we are here for you. ALWAYS. There's never a time of night … [Read More...]
